Supported several major application upgrades, including high availability remote site failover, web conversion, a card processor conversion. Implemented SunOne Web Servers to support the web conversion. In the process of implementing HP Openview for server monitoring, and Autosys job scheduling.

Sr Unix Administrator, GE Capital, Card Services, Corporate Card

Working with Solaris and Sun servers that support a financial (credit card) data environment. Responsible for server setup and configuration in a multi site, multi tiered web facing, client/server environment with over 2 TB of disk capacity. Consolidated servers, planned and implemented upgrades that resulted in 75% performance gains and over $250,000 in cost savings over 2 years. Implemented a new backup architecture & strategy with new recovery procedures. Completed 4 Quality Greenbelt projects with Greenbelt certification.

Sr Unix Developer, GE Capital, Card Services, Corporate Card

Worked with Perl, Java and HTML to convert financial (credit card) data into a format used by internally developed client/server and Web applications. With Perl, developed & modified modules that used DBI and CGI functions. Also used Sun's JDK 1.4, Oracle 7.3, Sybase 11 and Solaris 2.6. Provided Server specifications and purchase rationale for 2 new servers for our working environment. Our development team received recognition (applause award 4th quarter 2000).

April 1998 - May 2000 Consulting

Analyst,
Working with HP-UX on HP-9000 K-class servers, providing support for an in-house developed application used for sales & marketing data query and reporting for client. Assisted with application conversion & upgrades. Improved performance on daily (reduced process time by more than 50%) & monthly update process (reduced by over 30%). Improved reliability by automated scripting with safeguards to ensure completion without operator intervention. Worked with 3rd party POS data collection from Gelco and AC Nielsen. Worked with C, linked list sorting, Power Builder, Shell Scripts, Oracle 7.3, SQL-Plus, HP/UX, MS-OFFICE with Excel Macros, Win95, Win98, RAS.

Webmaster, Co-editor,
Working with a non-profit fraternal organization, produced monthly newsletter using MS-Publisher, as a co-editor. Designed, implemented, maintained & promoted the organization via their official web site to over 50 search engines, several web rings & registered the site with SafeSurf, and RSAC. Working with Solaris in a Sun E10000 environment for a leading world publisher and information provider as a client, working within their development & pre-production/certification environments. Supported their system build and software promotion process using nmake, C++ and sablime; Performed load testing using Load Runner.

Sr. Unix System Administrator,
Working with HP-UX on the HP-9000/E55, Solaris on everything from a Sun SPARC 5 to Enterprise 6500, AIX on RS/6000-F50. Working with Oracle, Solstice Disksuite converting to Veritas Volume Manager. Working with over 500 GB of IBM SSA Disk attached to all three server environments in a SAN. Providing assistance to specify and upgrade servers, operating systems, patches, implement a recovery plan for Y2K Unix servers and configure servers using Legato Networker with NT, HP, IBM & Sun systems for a large insurance company as a client. Provided Project and team leadership, including assistance with hiring decisions.

Unix System Administrator,
Performed Y2K compliance testing within environment for Solaris on Sun Servers. Worked with Informix, Oracle, Solstice Disksuite (Raid 1). Providing assistance to upgrade server operating systems, patches, implement a recovery plan for Y2K Unix servers and configure servers to implement a Y2K compliant environment for client.

1996-March 1998 System Administrator, Square D Company

Implemented REEL Backup using 3490 drives, upgraded to 3590 drives one year later. Assisted with conversion from SCSI to SSA storage. Helped to develop, implement, maintain and test the Unix Disaster Recovery Plan. Worked with DHCP, DNS, SNA, PPP networking technology. Worked with remote software distribution and software configuration management tools. Completed an ADSM evaluation. Used MS Project, LBMS and Project Workbench to manage projects.

implemented REEL Backup working with AIX v3 & 4.2, developed disaster recovery plan for client.

developed specifications, designed, implemented Point of Sale Interface to third party scheduling tool using C and unix shell scripts for large national grocery store chain client. Developed application for MicroFocus Cobol, data mapping using TSO and COBOL/2 for client.

Systems Programmer,
developed specifications, designed, implemented HR Placement system for a regional temporary employment services company with an interface to track hours worked and link to ADP’s payroll system using Clarion. Implemented a WFW LAN to support the application.

Systems Analyst/MIS Manager,
developed requirements, RFP, selected, purchased, installed an accounting system. Modified to fit business needs. Integrated LANTASTIC system, AppleTalk & TCP/ip network to tie accounting, product development and sales systems together. Implemented Email and voice mail systems, designed and implemented wiring to implement LAN and phone requirements.

1988-1992 Programmer/Analyst, Syncor International Corp

Developed, planned and implemented downsizing plan to convert from TI990 to PC running SCO Unix. Designed and implemented C routines embedded in M/F Cobol to perform detailed calculations and process electronic forms into a database for data collection. Interfaced HP COBOL programs to produce EDI forms to work with third party billing and invoicing programs used by vendors. Provided user documentation & training during the roll out of the new systems. Wrote context sensitive Hypertext (SGML) help system for use within the Cobol Applications.

1986-1988 Programmer, Electronic Management Systems

Programmed cash registers, implemented data transfer process to automate part of employee meal deduction system that interfaced with IRMA board to Mainframe payroll system. Setup, installed and trained personnel on computerized POS Systems running on PCs that communicated to Xenix/Unix systems. Customized reports and queries using Informix and Unify databases. Worked with other back office products that ran on PDP-11 and VAX.

1984-1986 Co-op, Several companies including college

Worked with VAX, pdp-11, PC’s from many vendors, WANG, IBM 4361. Managed the campus computer labs and provided tutorial assistance in a classroom setting. Performed backups of 4361 system. Wrote software to read and score Scantron tests, wrote a 8085 cross assembler and debugging environment to run on a VAX, wrote Y2K compliant date routines for C, COBOL and Pascal now in use by several companies I have worked for since college.

1980-1984 Misc Sales Support and Computer Store Management

Several companies, provided pre and post sales assistance, computer setup at the customer site. Provided training on equipment and software purchased. Setup PC accounting, spreadsheet, database and word processing applications.
